99 Spin transport , spin diffusion and Bloch equations in electron storage rings
We show how, beginning with the Fokker–Planck equation for electrons emitting synchrotron radiation in a storage ring, the corresponding equation for spin motion can be constructed. This is an equation of the Bloch type for the polarisation density.
متن کاملSome models of spin coherence and decoherence in storage rings ∗
I present some simple exactly solvable models of spin diffusion caused by synchrotron radiation noise in storage rings. I am able to use standard stochastic differential equation and Fokker-Planck methods and I thereby introduce, and exploit, the polarization density. This quantity obeys a linear evolution equation of the Bloch type, which is, like the Fokker-Planck equation, universal in the s...
متن کاملM ay 1 99 9 Spin dynamics simulation of the three - dimensional XY model : Structure factor and transport properties
We present extensive Monte-Carlo spin dynamics simulations of the classical XY model in three dimensions on a simple cubic lattice with periodic boundary conditions. A recently developed efficient integration algorithm for the equations of motion is used, which allows a substantial improvement of statistics and large integration times. We find spin wave peaks in a wide range around the critical...

The Sokolov-Ternov effect [1] Relativistic electrons in a storage ring emit synchrotron radiation (Sec.3.1 in [27]). A very small fraction of the radiated photons cause spin flip. For electron spins aligned along a uniform magnetic field, the ↑↓ and ↓↑ flip rates differ and this leads to a build-up of spin polarization antiparallel to the field. Positrons become polarized parallel to the field....
متن کاملPulsed-Field Gradient Nuclear Magnetic Resonance as a Tool for Studying Translational Diffusion: Part 1. Basic Theory
Translational diffusion is the most fundamental form of transport in chemical and biochemical systems. Pulsed-field gradient nuclear magnetic resonance provides a convenient and noninvasive means for measuring translational motion. In this method the attenuation of the echo signal from a Hahn spin-echo pulse sequence containing a magnetic field gradient pulse in each t period is used to measure...
